Morris (2021) Original Artwork from Series of Acrylic Sketches to Illustrate Neural Connectivity from Neural Imagery adapted through Photoshop and Ink Jet Printing
Our nervous system is governed by an estimated 10 billion neurons which are the ultimate information messengers. These small but vital neurons are responsible for receiving, integrating and transmitting information in our body and mind. In the brain there are many types of neurons with different functions, a neuron consists of four parts; a soma (cell body), an axon, dendrites, and a synapse. Everything we think and feel and do would be impossible without the work of neurons and their support cells, the glial cells…which represent at a base level identity-how we connect and communicate with ourselves and others. Original artwork inspirations stem from what has been achieved to date through neural mapping of neural networks through the use of a range of neuro-imagery techniques using neuroscience, biotechnology and computer programming. A range of artwork, neuroimagery and artwork techniques have been used to try and capture what cannot be seen by the human eye, the intricacy and complexity of human connection and communication. Through doing so visualisation of innate, core human experiencing can be illustrated from crisis to repair and recovery, to symbolise human encounter through a process of psychotherapeutic change.
